At Quiltt, we always say that our strength lies in our team – a mosaic of diverse talents, perspectives, and journeys. As we grow, every new member brings a unique flair to our collaborative tapestry. Today, we’re particularly thrilled to spotlight our newest addition, Jacob Villanueva. He isn't just a new name on our team; he's a blend of passion, experience, and an intriguing story of why Quiltt was his top choice. In our chat with Jacob, we dive deep into what drew him to our mission, the role he's eager to fill, and also a sneak peek into his adventures outside the office. Let's discover what made Quiltt stand out for him.
Jacob, with the myriad of opportunities out there and lots of amazing startups building cool products, what made Quiltt distinctly stand out for you?
Quiltt aims to make difficult and expensive processes accessible to the majority allowing for creative minds in the fintech space to build better applications. I love the idea of helping those who cant necessarily afford expensive platforms or have years of experience the chance to put their ideas to work. On top of the tech the team is insanely talented and has created a great company culture.
Every company has its unique culture and mission. What aspects of Quiltt's culture or core values resonated with you the most?
“Removing technical barriers” is such a great line in our mission statement. I believe that everyone has great ideas but don’t have either the money, time, or knowledge to see it through. With Quiltt we allow those individuals to start something that could be the next big thing.
Quiltt’s mission is to lower technical barriers for those building in fintech. How do you see yourself contributing to this, and why is it important to you?
I come from a customer success and product management background, and it is important to me to find how we can make our platform the best it can be. Connecting with clients, testing our products, and coming up with creative solutions is what I love and in turn creates a better customer experience.
Change and growth are inherent in any job. What are you looking forward to the most in terms of personal and professional growth at Quiltt?
I came from a start up prior to joining Quiltt and I understand that in early stage companies change happens all the time, and for me its exciting. I believe it translates to everyday life, prepare for anything and you’ll never be caught off guard. It is also great to watch something you contributed to mature, and in a sense you grow with it.
If someone asked you today why they should consider a career at Quiltt, based on your experience so far, what would you tell them?
I would tell them that Jenn runs this place! There is a great balance between great company culture, tech, benefits, and BBQ smoking that all make sense for anyone to enjoy working here. (sorry Vegans).
Alright, now let’s get to some fun questions and getting to know you a little better!
We've heard rumors that you're quite the avid sports fan! Which sport is your favorite and who’s your favorite team to follow?
I played a lot of sports growing up, and come from a very competitive household so sports were on all the time. By far my favorite is UT Football. Texas is Back and I’m here for it #hookem.
Weekend recharge: Are you more likely to binge-watch a series, dive into a good book, hit the great outdoors, or explore a new hobby? What's your latest obsession?
I am a big pop culture person and love watching TV, Movies, and listening to music. My latest obsession is The Bear on Hulu, I think we are living in the golden age of television. You are so not invited to my Bat Mitzvah is great (I love Adam Sandler and his family). As far as music goes I am such a grump when to trying new music, but I will be obsessing over Blink 182’s new album when it finally comes out.
Quiltt's team often shares fun stories from their travels or adventures. Do you have a favorite travel destination or a memorable adventure story you'd like to share with us?
I took a cruise to Alaska back in high school and it by far the best trip I have ever taken. We started in Seattle and made our way up the Canadian coast. I saw dolphins, seals, glaciers, the northern lights and insane amount of bald eagles. I would highly recommend that trip to anyone.
And finally…. Any last things you want to share about yourself or about joining Quiltt?
BBQ sauce belongs on BBQ.
